What can I notarize or commission for you?

Anything an Ontario lawyer can lawfully sign, seal or swear. The most common requests:

Notarized signatures and notarial seals on letters, forms and agreements

  • Affidavits and statutory declarations, sworn or affirmed
  • Certified true copies of passports, diplomas, licences and other originals
  • Child travel consent letters for trips outside Canada
  • Invitation letters for visitor visa applications
  • Attestation of official documents and copies for use abroad
  • Apostille preparation for Official Documents Services
  • Document witnessing, plus corporate and bulk signings

If your document is not on the list, it is probably still something I can help with. Send a photo of it to info@notarybylawyer.ca and I will confirm before you book.

Why book a lawyer instead of a notary kiosk?

Because the seal is only half the job. Plenty of places in the GTA can stamp a page. What a stamp cannot do is catch a name that does not match your ID, a missing page, a jurat in the wrong spot, or a document that the receiving office will bounce. As a practising lawyer I check those things as a matter of habit, and if something looks off I tell you before you pay a courier or a government fee to find out the hard way.You also get one accountable professional, not a franchise. Notary By Lawyer is the name I practise under, regulated by the Law Society of Ontario, and you can verify my licence in the LSO directory any time.

Three steps, usually under fifteen minutes in the chair.

How does an appointment work?

Book online or call

Pick a time at /book, or call or text 647-717-3222 for same-day availability.

2

Bring your document and ID

Bring the complete, unsigned document and one piece of valid government photo ID. The full checklist is on the What to Bring page.

3

I verify your identity, complete the notarial act or oath, apply my seal and signature, and you leave with a document ready to submit.

Where do you meet clients?

My office is in Mississauga at 3465 Platinum Drive, Mississauga, ON L5M 7N4, minutes from Square One with free parking. I serve all of Peel Region and the GTA in three ways: in person at the office, as a mobile notary who travels to your home, workplace, hospital or long-term care residence anywhere in the GTA for a travel fee, and by secure video for remote commissioning of eligible affidavits and statutory declarations under Ontario Regulation 431/20. Notarial acts, certified copies and anything headed for an apostille must be completed in person with wet-ink signatures.

What does it cost?

Flat, posted fees. Your first notarization or sworn document is $45 , with additional seals or documents in the same visit at a reduced rate. Mobile visits add a travel fee by zone. The full table, including packages for families and apostille preparation, is on the Pricing page. No surprises at the desk.

About

Zain Ali

I am a Barrister and Solicitor licensed by the Law Society of Ontario (Class L1, Law Society Number 79231O). Notary By Lawyer is the trade name under which I provide notarial and commissioning services. I built this practice around a simple idea: legal formalities explained in plain English, done carefully, at a fair flat price. Read more on the About page.

What gets documents rejected, and how is that avoided here?

The same handful of defects sink most paperwork: a signature that predates the appointment, a name spelled differently than the ID, a missing exhibit, certificate wording that does not match what the foreign recipient demanded, or the wrong act entirely, a commissioneru2019s stamp where a notarial seal was required. My routine is built around catching these. Every appointment starts with a read-through against your recipientu2019s instructions, and if anything will cause a problem downstream, you hear it before the seal goes on and before you have paid a government fee to find out.

Services

Notary and Commissioner Services

Here is everything I do as a lawyer, notary public and commissioner for taking affidavits in Ontario. Each service has its own page with the process, requirements and fees, so you know exactly what to bring before you book.
Notarization
Signatures witnessed and sealed, notarial certificates, attestation of documents for use in Canada or abroad. The workhorse service, done in person at my Mississauga office or at your location.

Commissioner of Oaths

Affidavits and statutory declarations sworn or affirmed, for courts, government agencies, insurers and employers. Eligible documents can be commissioned by video under O. Reg. 431/20.

Certified True Copies

I compare your original against a photocopy and certify the copy as true, so you never have to mail your passport or diploma anywhere.

Apostille Services

Since Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention in January 2024, documents for use abroad often need an apostille from Official Documents Services. I notarize your documents with the wet-ink originals ODS requires and prepare your submission package.

Mobile Notary

I travel anywhere in the GTA: homes, offices, hospitals, long-term care residences and job sites. Travel fees by zone, posted on the Pricing page.

Specific documents

Looking for help with a particular document rather than a category? See the guides for child travel consent letters, statutory declarations, affidavits and invitation letters on the Documents page.
FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take walk-ins or is it appointment only?

Appointments get priority, and same-day slots are usually available. If you are nearby, call or text 647-717-3222 first and I will tell you honestly whether to come now or in an hour.

Can you notarize my document online?

No. Ontario does not currently permit remote notarization. What I can do by video is remote commissioning of eligible affidavits and statutory declarations under O. Reg. 431/20. Anything needing a notarial seal, a certified copy or an apostille is in person only.

What ID do I need to bring?

One piece of valid government-issued photo ID such as a passport, driveru2019s licence or PR card. A second piece of ID helps if your document shows a different version of your name.

How fast can I get a document notarized?

Often the same day you call. The signing itself typically takes ten to fifteen minutes once you are in the office.

Do you offer retainer or corporate packages?

We offer customized retainer packages for businesses requiring ongoing legal advisory support.nnnn
